SP5-L 5 W Solar Panel

Overview

The SP5-L is a 5 W solar panel that is typically used as a recharging source with our CR200- and CR200X-series dataloggers, as well as our CRVW3. It may be suitable for use with other dataloggers, provided that the system's power recharge requirements are low enough. The SP5-L cable has a user-specified lead length that terminates in pigtails to attach directly to the terminal strip of the datalogger.

Benefits and Features

  • Supplies electrical power in locations where ac power is unreliable, expensive, or not available

The "-L" on a product model indicates that the cable length is specified at the time of order.

Detailed Description

The SP5-L solar panel captures solar energy via a 72 in.2 surface area. It is only suitable for systems with low power requirements. Sites must also have good exposure to sunlight.

The SP5-L differs from the SP5 only in its cable termination. The SP5-L cable terminates in pigtails that attaches either to the datalogger's terminals or a standard power supply. In contrast, the SP5 cable terminates in a connector for attachment to the ENC200 enclosure.

Included mounting hardware consists of one part no. 17492 U-bolt and matching nuts. The U-bolt has a 5.398 cm (2.125 in.) space between the U-bolt legs. This hardware allows the solar panel to be mounted to a 0.75-1.5 in. IPS pipe [25.4-50.8 cm (1-2 in.) OD].

Specifications

-NOTE- Solar panel characteristics assume 1 kW m-2 illumination and 25°C solar panel temperature. Individual panels may vary up to 10%. The output panel voltage increases as the panel temperature decreases.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Regulators control the current flowing to the battery and prevent the battery current from flowing to the charging source. These solar panels do not include an on-board voltage regulator, so a stand-alone regulator would be required to complete a power supply.

Typically, these solar panels are connected to a CH100, CH200, PS100, or PS200, as well as to the battery base of a CR3000 or CR5000. The PS100 and the PS200, as well as the battery base of the CR3000 and CR5000, include an internal regulator.
