SR50A-EE
SR50A-EE
Limited availabilityAnodized Sonic Distance Sensor for Extreme Environments
Overview
Note: This product has limited availability. Please consider the SnowVue™10 Digital Snow-Depth Sensor for snow-depth measurements and the TempVue™20 Pt100 Digital Air Temperature Sensor or HygroVue™10 Digital Temperature and Relative Humidity Sensor with M12 Connector for air temperature measurements.
The SR50A-EE is an anodized version of Campbell Scientific's acoustic sensor for measuring the distance from the sensor to the snow surface. The sensor has been designed to operate in extreme environmental conditions where corrosion is a concern (such as coastal regions). The SR50A-EE features an aluminum body that has been treated with a Type III, hard-anodizing process (MIL-A-8625 Type III) that delivers best-in-class corrosion and wear resistance.
To properly calculate snow depth from the measured distance, an air temperature measurement is required to correct for variations of the speed of sound in air. This sensor is compatible with most Campbell Scientific data loggers.
Key Advantages
Corrosion-resistant chassis and transducer
Technical Description
The SR50A-EE was designed to meet the stringent requirements of measuring depths and uses a multiple echo processing algorithm to help ensure measurement reliability.
SDI-12, RS-232, and RS-485 output options are available for measuring the SR50A-EE. Campbell Scientific’s MD485 interface can be used to connect one or more SR50A-EE sensors in RS-485 mode to an RS-232 device. This can be useful for sensors that require lead lengths that exceed the limits of either RS-232 or SDI-12 communications. The SR50AH is available with a heater option for locations where rime ice is a problem.

Common Accessories
(7)19517
SR50A and SnowVue Mounting Kit
Either a mounting kit (pn 19517) or a mounting stem (pn 19484) is needed for use with the SR50A-EE. This mounting kit attaches directly to a CM206 crossarm or user-supplied pole with a 1-in. to 1.75-in. outside diameter.
Orderable19484
SR50A and SnowVue Mounting Stem
Either a mounting stem (pn 19484) or a mounting kit (pn 19517) is needed for use with the SR50A-EE. This mounting stem is attached to the CM206 crossarm or a user-supplied pole via a CM220 mount, 17953 Nu-Rail fitting, or CM230 Adjustable Inclination Mount.
Orderable17953
1- x 1-in. Nu-Rail Crossover Fitting
If the 19484 mounting stem is being used, one of four mounting options is needed. The 17953 is one option. The 17953 connects a vertical 1-inch pipe to a horizontal 1-inch pipe. The 17953 is typically used to attach a sensor with a 1-inch vertical pipe mount to a CM202, CM204, or CM206 crossarm. This usage provides functionality similar to the CM220 right-angle mounting bracket.
OrderableCM221
Right-Angle Mounting Kit
The CM221 mounts a pipe or tube at 90° to another pipe or tube. It is typically used to attach a sensor with a vertical pipe (including most wind sensors) to a crossarm. The cast aluminum, right-angle mounting bracket has 3.8 cm (1.5 in.) U-bolts and hardware and will accommodate tubing with a 1- to 1.5-in. outer diameter.
OrderableCM230
Adjustable Inclination Mounting Kit
If the 19484 mounting stem is being used, one of four mounting options is needed. The CM230 is one option. The CM230 is an adjustable mount to point directional antennas or sensors at a specific target. The inclination can be adjusted to any angle from horizontal to vertical, supporting the use of upward-directed antennas or downward-directed infrared thermometers or snow-depth sensors.
OrderableCM230XL
Adjustable Angle Mounting Kit, Extended Length
If the 19484 mounting stem is being used, one of four mounting options is needed. The CM230XL is one option. The CM230XL is an adjustable mount to point directional antennas or sensors at a specific target. The inclination can be adjusted to any angle from horizontal to vertical, supporting the use of upward-directed antennas or downward-directed infrared thermometers or snow-depth sensors.
Orderable39120
DIN Rail Terminal Kit with 2 Terminals and 5 Wires
The 39120 provides the needed DIN rail terminals, separator, and wires to connect any product to a data logger or other peripheral that requires five wires for connection. This kit provides the following wires: black, green, red, white, and clear. The color-coding of these wires matches the wire coloring of the product for ease in connection, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
