This unity gain, 1/4 wave whip antenna was retired on January 5, 2010. The 15901 was a standard component of the CSBUOY-NS and CSBUOY-DS systems. It was housed in the CSBuoy's electronics compartment along with the data logger and radio.
Whip antennas pick up signals from all directions (i.e., don't need to be pointed directly at the source of the signal to pick it up). They can be used when the specific direction of the signal is not known, when one antenna is receiving and transmitting in several directions, and for mobile applications.
