CELL205 cellular module

You may have heard us say that we live by the mantra “Measurements Matter.” We always strive to give you the measurement devices you need to make the most accurate measurements possible using leading-edge technology in a reliable, low-power solution. But, to be honest, good data only gets you so far. No matter how good those measurements are, if you can’t get the data from your Campbell Scientific data logger or smart sensor, those measurements that matter don’t have much of a use. That’s why we developed the CELL200 series of external cellular modules to complement your data acquisition systems.

Working Together

On the subject of complementary system components, Rick Spielmaker, a lead engineer on the cellular module project, said, “Our customers rely on Campbell Scientific data loggers, sensors, and other equipment because they are reliable, flexible, trouble free, and low power.” Spielmaker added that we now offer cellular devices—both embedded and external—that have the same quality and reliability that you have become accustomed to with our data loggers. “Most people know Campbell Scientific is there to help them solve interesting and troublesome problems. Now we can also help them with their communications issues!”

Recently, we released integrated modem modules in our popular CR300 and CR310 dataloggers. (Refer to the “7 Things You Should Know about New Cellular Options for Data Loggers” blog article.) Today, we can offer you external 4G cellular modems—just in time to meet those pesky 3G cellular network sunsets. Both our embedded and external cellular devices help system integrators, OEMs, and other users avoid costly, time-consuming maintenance visits to their remote devices around the world.

Easy to Use

Travis Barney, a firmware engineer on the cellular module project, said, “These cellular modules are really easy to use. We designed these cellular modules so [that] they are easy to use, set up, and configure. We stripped out all those unnecessary settings and configurations that our customers don’t need. We give them only the settings they need to get the job done and done well.”

Ready to Use (and more)

When you pair one of the CELL200-series modules with CELLDATA (Campbell Scientific Cellular Data Service Subscription), your new cellular modem comes pre-provisioned and ready to use out of the box. There is no need for you to work with a cellular carrier for modem provisioning and data plans. In addition, you can benefit from the following: very competitive pricing on cellular data plans; customer support from Campbell Scientific (who intimately understands your application); and free access to the Konect PakBus Router service, which assures on-demand, two-way communications access with your data logger.

The Right Cellular Module for You

So, which CELL200-series cellular module should you use? It’s easy to select the module that is right for you when you know how they differ:

  • The CELL205 is a 4G LTE CAT1 cellular module that you can use with AT&T, T-Mobile, Rogers, and many other cellular provider networks. (Call your favorite Campbell Scientific sales engineer to see if the CELL205 will work with your favorite provider.)
  • The CELL210 is a 4G LTE CAT1 cellular device that works only with the Verizon network in the United States.
  • The CELL215 (to be released shortly after the certification is completed) has all the features of the CELL205 and CELL210, but it is designed to work on cellular networks in EMEA countries.
  • The CELL220 (also to be released shortly after certification completion) is designed specifically for the Telstra carrier network in Australia.

More Information

As we mentioned in this article, when you value good measurement data, it's also important to value your method of data retrieval. We hope you are excited about our new cellular modules and the benefits they offer.
