Detailed Description

The 10164 enables a data logger to trigger an ISCO or American Sigma or equivalent sampler, inhibit the sampler from running its programmed sampling routine, and record end-of-sample signal.

In most applications, the 10164 cable connects the data logger to a sampler residing in the same instrumentation shack. Therefore cable lengths of 50 feet or less should suffice. If the application requires long lead lengths and the sampler supports long event markers, the cable could support distances up to 1000 feet (for example, the Isco-brand sampler has an event marker that is 3 seconds, an adequate duration for a cable length of 1000 feet). However, the cable has no additional built-in surge protection. In these applications, the cable should be protected, (e.g., buried a foot deep in metal conduit) to protect the system from electrical transients.

Additional Compatibility Information

Power

The 10164 draws less than 1 mA; consult the specifications of the connected sampler to determine its power considerations.

Sensor Cabling

The 10164 has a mil-spec, 6-pin circular connector (shell size 14) for connection to the sampler.

Data Logger Considerations

The 10164 cable requires a connection to 12 Vdc, a control port, CAO, or excitation channel to trigger the sample. To inhibit samples, a continuous voltage may be required, which would eliminate the use of the CAO or excitation channel.

Programming

Event marker signals from the connected sampler are measured using PulseCount in CRBasic or Instruction 3 (Pulse Count) in Edlog. Although the CR5000, CR7, and CR9000X are compatible with the 10164, their use in water quality applications is limited.
