The SM232A was rendered obsolete by the SC532-series interfaces. The SM232A provided an interface from our generally obsolete SM16, SM64, SM192, or SM716 Storage Modules to an IBM-compatible computer's serial port. The SM232A had manual switches that needed to be toggled to activate data transfer. It also functioned as an interface between a storage module and a serial port of a non-IBM compatible computer (required that users write specialized software for their computer).
