Overview
The ClimaVue™50 Bird Spike Kit is used to discourage birds from roosting on the ClimaVue 50 and leaving any unwanted droppings behind that could clog the rain funnel. The bird spike kit slips over the top of the ClimaVue 50 and slides down the sides until it fits securely in place. The 35048 consists of a plastic band with spikes pointing upward. The spikes' shape and location ensure minimal interference with rain and solar measurements. The flexible spikes extend 10.16 cm (4 in.) above the top of the ClimaVue 50. The spikes are designed not to hurt the birds.

Detailed Description
For proper installation of the bird spike kit, push the plastic band down on the rain funnel so that the top of the band is 0.673 cm (0.265 in.) or more below the top of the funnel. Minimize the gap between the band on the funnel. You can modify the spikes to be shorter if needed. You can also drill out secondary spike positions to install additional short spikes.
Additional notes about installation:
- To limit the effects of shading, orient the spikes so that the pyranometer is in-between two spikes.
- It is likely that you will see the effect of the spike shadow in your pyranometer data. You may bend the spikes to minimize the shadow.
- Campbell Scientific recommends the use of a vise-grip tool to install the spikes.
