Overview
The TE525WS, manufactured by Texas Electronics, is a tipping bucket rain gage that conforms to the National Weather Service recommendation for an 8 in. funnel orifice. It measures rainfall in 0.01 in. increments. This tipping bucket is compatible with all Campbell Scientific data loggers, and it is widely used in environmental monitoring applications.
Key Advantages
Technical Description
The TE525WS funnels precipitation into a bucket mechanism that tips when filled to its calibrated level. A magnet attached to the tipping mechanism actuates a switch as the bucket tips. The momentary switch closure is counted by the pulse-counting circuitry of our data loggers.
Benefits
- Compatible with most Campbell Scientific data loggers
- Accuracy is ±1 percent at rates up to 1 in./hr
- High precision—tips at 0.01-in. increments
- Directly compatible with the CS705 Snowfall Adapter allowing the TE525WS to measure the measure the water content of snow
- Conforms to the National Weather Service recommendation for an 8-inch funnel orifice
- Compatible with the CWS900-series interfaces, allowing it to be used in a wireless sensor network

Common Accessories
(7)CM270
Rain Gage Mounting Kit for the TE525, TE525MM, or TE525WS
The CM270 can be used to mount the sensor instead of the mounting that is included with the sensor. The CM270 is included with the CS705.
OrderableCS705
Snowfall Adapter for Rain Gages with 8 in. Orifices
The CS705 is a snowfall adapter that converts a standard 8 in. tipping bucket rain gage to a year-round rain and snow gage. It is typically used with our TE525WS rain gages.
The CS705 consists of the following: One black catch tube One reservoir One overflow (measurement) tube One 14807 drain funnel Two stainless-steel band clamps One set of CM270 mounting hardware
Solid precipitation is gathered in the catch tube and mixed with a non-toxic propylene glycol and ethanol (PGE) solution inside the reservoir. The PGE solution lowers the melting point of the frozen snow and allows the resulting liquid solution to flow through the overflow tube and be measured with a standard 8 in. rain gage.Orderable260-953
Alter-Type Rain Gage Wind Screen
This wind screen consists of 32 leaves that hang freely and swing as the wind moves past them. The 260-953 helps minimize the affect of wind on the rain measurements.
OrderableCM300
23 in. Mounting Pole with Cap
The CM300 provides a 23-inch long pole for mounting the TE525WS. This pole can be embedded directly into a concrete foundation or used with a pedestal kit. Campbell Scientific offers a j-bolt pedestal kit for permanent installations; a short leg kit for many temporary installations and many situations where it is impractical to use a concrete foundation; and a long leg kit for locations where the feet cannot be secured (e.g., pole sitting on a roof) or for areas that experience high wind speeds.
OrderableCM305
47 in. Mounting Pole with Cap
The CM305 provides a 47-inch long pole for mounting the TE525WS.
OrderableCM310
56 in. Mounting Pole with Cap
The CM310 provides a 56-inch long pole for mounting the TE525WS.

DIN Rail Terminal Kit with 1 Terminal and 3 Wires
The 39112 provides the needed DIN rail terminals, separator, and wires to connect any product to a data logger or other peripheral that requires three wires for connection. This kit provides the following wires: black, white, and clear. The color-coding of these wires matches the wire coloring of the product for ease in connection, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Replacement Parts
(5)5603
Replacement Reed Switch with Terminal Lugs for TE525-Series Rain Gages
The 5603 is for newer TE525-series rain gages that have the reed switch enclosed in a black plastic housing. A screwdriver is required to replace the switch and rewire the connections. This replacement can generally be accomplished by users who wish to perform the replacement themselves. Alternatively, an RMA may be requested from Campbell Scientific, and the switch can be replaced by one of our technicians; this option may be more viable if the rain gage is scheduled to undergo factory recalibration at the same time.
Orderable30272
Replacement Reed Switch without Terminal Lugs for TE525-series
The 30272 is similar to the 5603 (see above), but it does not include terminal lugs. Users can often perform the replacement themselves. Alternatively, an RMA may be requested from Campbell Scientific and the switch can be replaced by one of our technicians. If your TE525MM rain gage has a reed switch that is encapsulated in glass with a red potting compound on either end of the glass tube, the rain gage should be returned to Campbell Scientific for replacement of both the reed switch and the tipping bucket mechanism.
Orderable30280
TE525WS Replacement Funnel/Collector with Screen
The 30280 provides a replacement funnel/collector, screen, and snap ring for the TE525WS.
Orderable30281
TE525WS or TE525MM Replacement Screen
The 30281 provides a replacement screen for this rain gage.

Compatibility
Mounting
The TE525WS rain gage mounts to a CM300-series Mounting Pole or a user-supplied 1.5” IPS pole. Several pedestal options are available to secure a CM300-series pole to the ground (see Ordering Information). Accurate measurements require the gage to be level.
Snowfall Adapter
The TE525WS is directly compatible with the CS705 Snowfall Conversion Adapter. The CS705 uses PG:E antifreeze to melt snow, allowing the TE525WS to measure the water content of snow.
Wind Screen
Campbell Scientific offers the 260-953 Wind Screen to help minimize the affect of wind on the rain measurements. This wind screen consists of 32 leaves that hang freely and swing as the wind moves past them.
