General Course Outline

Specto Technology and Campbell Scientific are offering a three-day training course. The course will be held November 6 to 8, 2017, at Specto Technology’s training center in Linden, NJ (1061 E. Elizabeth Avenue, Linden, NJ 07036) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This three-day course is designed for engineers and contractors who use, or are considering using, Campbell Scientific dataloggers to automate data acquisition systems for geotechnical and structural monitoring.

The topics covered will include:

• Introduction to Automated Data Acquisition
• Sensors – Physical Phenomena to Electrical Signal
• Dataloggers – Electrical Signal to Engineering Units and Beyond
• Interfacing a Computer with the Datalogger
• Using Shortcut to Program the Datalogger to Make Sensor Measurements
• Introduction to Programming the Datalogger with CRBasic Programming Language to Make Sensor Measurements
• Discussion of Vibrating Wire Sensors, Theory, Programming, and Troubleshooting
• Adding a Multiplexer to Increase Sensor Capacity
• Incorporating Remote Communication Methods into an Automated Data Acquisition System

Much of the course will involve hands-on training with course participants programming Campbell Scientific CR6 dataloggers to make measurements on thermocouples, thermistors, tilt meters, piezometers, accelerometers, and crack meters. Dataloggers, computers, software, and sensors will be provided for use during the course.

$1200 USD per person (includes lunch, course materials, and certificate of attendance)
