Overview
The SP90 90 W solar panel is a photovoltaic power source capable of recharging batteries. It is used in systems that require high-power solar panels. The SP90 allows unattended operation of systems in remote locations, far from ac electrical sources.
This solar panel needs to be used with either a 18529 Morningstar SunSaver regulator or a CH200 Smart Charge Controller.
In the image, the SP90 is shown with a 31107 Extended Mounting Kit.
Key Advantages
Useful at sites far from ac sources
Technical Description
The SP90 includes the 31107 Extended Mounting Kit for attaching the solar panel to a Campbell Scientific tripod or tower. The 31107 positions the solar panel approximately 25 cm (10 in.) from the tripod or tower, which reduces shadows from other components and guy wires. The zenith angle indicator and the slotted supports simplify installation. The 31107 began shipping with the solar panel in October 2014. This kit may be purchased separately to retrofit existing solar panels.
Regulators
One SP90 can be connected to the SOLAR charge input of the CH200 or 18529 SunSaver regulator to provide a peak charge of 90 W. Two SP90 solar panels can be wired in parallel to the charge inputs of the SunSaver 18529 regulator to provide a peak charge of 180 W.
Note: Regulators must be housed in an environmental enclosure.
18529 MorningStar SunSaver
The 18529 Morning Star SunSaver limits charging current to approximately 10 A, has a quiescent current drain of approximately 8 mA, and can charge sealed batteries such as our BP12, BP24, and BP84 or flooded batteries.
CH200 Smart Charge Controller
The CH200 limits charging current to approximately 3.6 A, has a quiescent current drain of only 0.3 mA and can precisely charge the following battery families: EnerSys Genesis NP Series (includes our BP12 and BP24), EnerSys Cyclone Series, Concorde Sun Xtender Series (includes our BP84 and PS84) or a custom battery.
Benefits
- Supplies electrical power in locations where ac power is unreliable, expensive, or not available
Specifications
- -NOTE-
- Solar panel characteristics assume 1 kW m-2 illumination and 25°C solar panel temperature.
Individual panels may vary up to 10%. The output panel voltage increases as the panel temperature decreases.

(3)18529
10 A 12 V Regulator with 15 ft Battery Cable
The 18529 MorningStar SunSaver blocks charging currents greater than ~10 Adc, has a quiescent current drain of ~8 mA, and can less precisely charge sealed (includes our BP12, BP24 and BP84) or flooded batteries.
OrderableCH201
12 V Charging Regulator
The CH201 is a microcontroller-based smart charge controller that is ideal for charging 12 Vdc VRLA batteries. The charger uses MPPT (maximum power point tracking) technology to safely manage amperage and voltage for optimal battery charging and longevity. It has dual inputs for use with a solar panel and/or any 15 to 50 Vdc charging source. The dual inputs provide the option for fail-safe charging. The CH201 also outputs various parameters to allow close monitoring of the battery and power usage.
Orderable39107
DIN Rail Terminal Kit with 2 Terminals and 2 Wires
This kit is typically used for power supplies, smaller solar panels, or other power sources. The 39107 provides the needed DIN rail terminal, separator, and wires to connect any product to a data logger or other peripheral that requires two wires for connection. This kit provides the following 16 AWG wires: black and red. The color-coding of these wires matches the wire coloring of the product for ease in connection, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

(2)CH200
Smart 12 V Charging Regulator
The CH200 limits charging current to approximately 3.6 A, has a quiescent current drain of only 0.3 mA and can precisely charge the following battery families: EnerSys Genesis NP Series (includes our PS200, BP12 and BP24), EnerSys Cyclone Series, Concorde Sun Xtender Series (includes our BP84 and PS84) and a custom battery.
OrderableCM345
Large Pole to Mast or Crossarm Adapter Kit
The CM345 is an adapter to mount a vertical 1 to 2.5 in, pipe (1.315 to 2.875 in. OD) or a 1 in, horizontal pipe (1.315 in. OD crossarm) to a large pole with a 20.32 to 53.34 cm (8 to 21 in,) diameter. By using this adapter with a vertical mast or crossarm, you can mount other standard Campbell Scientific gear to a larger pole. The vertical pipe clamps used are standard Unistrut clamps.
Note: -NP option is recommended with a quantity of two required. Additional hardware also needed to attach the solar panel mount to the CM345: eight of pn 19102, eight of pn 18126, eight of pn 4366, and eight of pn 4365.Orderable
