WDS WiFi

Wireless Distribution System. Is anyone using one with WiFi-enabled loggers?

We have bridged 2 NanoStations in WDS mode and would like to extend coverage to nearby soil moisture plots. I'm skeptical that a CR300+WiFi would be able to connect because WDS is non-standard but maybe someone has done it already...?

If not, I'll have to add another radio as non-WDS AP. Less hardware would be better though.

This is different than your scenario, but we do something similar all over the place with the UBNT bridges and an NL115 network module. It's very good. We use the Time Between() on the data loggers to turn the network port and station radio on/off to reduce the power draw.

We don't use any of the native wifi features in the newer loggers.

I received this promising response from a Support Engineer (thanks Jacob):

We do not have WDS implemented in our devices.

It is my understanding that most WDS systems is the linking between the routers, but a regular Wifi device can connect to any router in that network without repeating the signal.

So, I think the CR300-Wifi could connect to the network, but not repeat it.

I also managed to get ahold of a CR6-WIFI and tried it out. The result: Yes, wifi-enabled loggers can connect to networks which utilize WDS (at least on Ubiquiti h/w). However, additional proprietary features (e.g. Airmax) must be disabled.
