CVF4
CVF4
OrderableVentilation Unit for Pyranometers
Overview
The CVF4, manufactured by Kipp & Zonen, is a ventilator/heater for our CMP6, CMP10, CMP11, CMP21, and SMP10 pyranometers. The ventilation unit improves the reliability and accuracy of the measurement by reducing dust, raindrops, and dew on the dome. The integrated heater can be used to disperse precipitation and melt frost, or even melt snow and ice in cold climates.
Technical Description
The CVF4 uses a fan and inlet filter to draw clean air over the pyranometer’s domes. The fan runs continuously to reduce dust and dirt settling, to dissipate rain drops, and to stabilize the dome temperature.
The flow that the CVF4 creates is unique. At the top of the pyranometer dome, the flow is very high, and it swirls to improve the air distribution over the dome. The position of the heaters and the new cover material ensure that only half the heating power is needed to melt frost and snow compared to older ventilation units.
The CVF4 is meant to run continuously. The heater can either be switched on permanently for cold regions, or it can be switched by a Campbell Scientific data logger to remove dew in the morning and then be switched off afterward. In that scenario, the heater could operate for a period before and after sunrise. This saves power in situations where power is limited, such as PV-operated systems.

Common Accessories
(5)CM261
Single-Axis Tracker Mounting Stand
One CM261 is needed per CVF4. The CM261 single-axis tracker pyranometer mount with adjustable plane simplifies the mounting of any pyranometer, ventilation unit, reference cell, or SPN1 to octagonal, round, and square single-axis torque tubes. The CM261 is a combination and simplification of the CM260 and CM265 to make ordering easier and usability friendlier. The bracket includes provisions for mounting the sensors and ventilation units at different heights, allowing the sensing element to be mounted at the same height as the solar modules.
OrderableCM221
Right-Angle Mounting Kit
The CM221 mounts a pipe or tube at 90° to another pipe or tube. It is typically used to attach a sensor with a vertical pipe (including most wind sensors) to a crossarm. The cast aluminum, right-angle mounting bracket has 3.8 cm (1.5 in.) U-bolts and hardware and will accommodate tubing with a 1- to 1.5-in. outer diameter.
Orderable17953
1- x 1-in. Nu-Rail Crossover Fitting
The 17953 connects a vertical 1-inch pipe to a horizontal 1-inch pipe. The 17953 is typically used to attach a sensor with a 1-inch vertical pipe mount to a CM202, CM204, or CM206 crossarm. This usage provides functionality similar to the CM220 right-angle mounting bracket.
OrderableCMB200
Crossarm Brace Kit
The CMB200 Crossarm Brace Kit is designed to provide additional stability when using a crossarm mounted on Campbell Scientific tripods and towers. This kit provides support for crossarms with heavier or sensitive sensor loads, as well as added stability in higher winds. Each kit includes one brace arm and three sets of mounting brackets.
Orderable39141
DIN Rail Terminal Kit with 3 Terminals and 9 Wires
The 39141 provides the needed DIN rail terminals, separator, and wires to connect any product to a data logger or other peripheral that requires nine wires for connection. This kit provides the following wires: black, light blue, brown, gray, green, red, white, yellow, and clear. The color-coding of these wires matches the wire coloring of the product for ease in connection, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Mounting
The 31153 Mounting Stand is used to fasten the CVF4 to a crossarm or pole via the CM220 right-angle mount or the 17953 Nu-Rail® fitting.
