Port Covers (a bit random)

Peter R. Nov 22, 2016 01:01 AM

We have quite a few prebuilt (and a ton of non-prebuilt) Campbell enclosures. Some of the prebuilt ones came with port covers which I am in a desperate search for but in a different size. The item blocks the lower ports and clamps on using a butterfly nut. They fit pretty flush. Do you know where I can buy these and are these made in different sizes? I need to vent a pelican box but when not in use retain it's water resistance - I'm looking for about a 4inch version of these.

Thanks in advance - sorry, I don't know the proper term for these items.

Hi Peter,

The part with a wing-nut is an enclosure plug correct? We carry a couple of different styles of plugs.  The one you described with the wing-nut is what we typically use for our metallic enclosures.

But we also use submersible hole plugs for our non-metallic enclosures, including Pelican type cases.  Please reference the McMaster link for both styles:

https://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/122/898/=155jpu6

We stock a pretty broad range of plugs anything from 1/2" to 2" trade size openings.  However, for a four inch I would look on that McMaster page for more information...

Hope that helps a bit?  Let us know if you would like a list of what we carry.

Ben

Ben, thank you. Perfect. I'm looking for something about 4inch and McMaster seems to have what I need. They're horrendously expensive though ($90 ea). With the 4 holes I need to punch in the pelican case these plugs will cost more than case. Time to look at alternative cases I think.

I know what you mean about the cost.  I think a large part of that has to do with rating of the enclosure that they are trying to maintain, whether its a NEMA 4, or 4x, etc.  One other option would be to check out an electrician's supply shop.  They may have something in normal trade sizes that could be used to plug old conduits etc..  They tend to stock common parts and so i think the cost would be reasonable too.
