Removing automated timestamp and recordnumber

EddyCO2 Sep 29, 2016 09:29 PM

Hi,

I just switched to loggernet 4.2 (previously using 3.X) versions I noticed the timestamp and record number being automatically added to the tables. I've tried the solution proposed in the forum :" In LoggerNet's Setup screen, Data Files tab, select the [...] button beside the Output Format field. This will bring up a dialog box that lets you turn off Record Number (and Timestamp, though I don't recommend turning off the timestamp!)" but it simply does not work for me. I unchecked the boxes, clicked apply and the timestamp and record number are still there. I tried pretty much everything I could think of (format the logger before, stop/resent the program, etc). I simply want to get rid of these column as I prefer year, month, day, min, sec, decsec, and find no use for record number (which goes up quickly at 10hz).

Any suggestion?

Thanks

I'll take a look at it. It may not matter, but what type of logger and OS do you have?

I'm not seeing a problem. Can you tell me what settings you have? I am using LN 4.4.1. Setup has the following settings for the file in question in my current testing:

File Output Option: Append to End of File
Output Format: ASCII Table Data, Long header (TOA5)
... button has: Include Timestamp off, Include Record Number, and Midnight is 2400 was tested both on and off

Do you have multiple files being output and maybe haven't changed the output option on all of them?

If you need to change the default for future stations that are created, you would do that by going to:

Setup Screen. Choose Tools. Choose LoggerNet Server Settings.
Choose third choice at left of LoggerNet Defaults
Choose the 2nd tab of Data Files
Under Table Output Format change the output format using the [...] button like you do in your station setup.

I'm wondering if there is also a bit of miscommunication? Changing those settings should change future collections. It will not remove the columns from a data file that is already collected. When the setting changes, if you are using File Output Option of "Append to end of file", your exiting data file will be renamed to filename.dat.backup and you will have a new filename.dat created that should not have the TimeStamp and Record Number (if you turned both off) in the future collections.

I created a new station in order to start from scratch and followed your instructions. Still, the timestamps and record number are still there. When is the command not to output the timestamp or record number is sent to the logger? As soon as you click apply?

Should I erase everything on the CR3000 logger and try again? We are logging data on a CF card, could that be a problem?

LoggerNet Table Monitor will always show the record number and timestamp. But if you follow the stated procedure above and uncheck record number in the output format option for a data table, then the record number will not be stored in collected final storage data. For card data, data is stored to the card in TOB3 format. You must use the Card Convert utility in LoggerNet to convert the data to a human-readable form. To convert the data without storing a record number, uncheck Store Record Numbers in Card Convert Destination File Options.

Alright, I've found the problem! The boxes for Record Numbers and Timestamps were checked in the CardConvert program.

Thanks for the help!
