FAQ

Q. Why do I need an SC32B to connect my PC to my CR510, CR500, CR10(X), 21X, or CR7 datalogger?
The SC32B provides isolation between the datalogger and PC. It also converts the CMOS logic levels of our dataloggers to the RS-232 logic levels required by most computers.

Q. Can the CR10X send data out the serial port to be parsed by another instrument? If so, is this automatic, programmed, or a response to a command from another instrument?

You can send data out the CS/IO port automatically using Instruction 96 Activate Serial Data Output.

Q. Can the CR10X communicate piezometer data easily with a Wonderware SCADA system for data display?

If the CR10X has Modbus OS you can use Wonderware to display the data. If you don't have Modbus OS, you would need LoggerNet software to collect the data and then use PC-OPC Sever software to display data.

Q. I have a CR10X. I am using it to observe rainfall data. The CR10X uses an ac power supply. Is the observational data maintained even if ac power is lost when data is written in the final storage area? Additionally, can the data of final storage area be read by an internal program when ac power is restored?

The CR10X has battery backup RAM and clock. In other words you do not lose your program, final storage data, or your clock settings if you lose ac power. Data is sent to final storage by an internal program. Data can be sent from final storage by an internal program to a storage module, computer, or printer using Instruction 96 Active Serial Data Output.

Q. Is there a minimum 12-channel datalogger available that can send data to an Internet server by GPRS?

The CR1000 can send data to the Internet using GPRS.

Q. I'd like to know if there's an existing port on the CR10X that could house a RS-232 one-wire interface device. We'd like to connect a CR10X to a DS1820 integrated circuit utilizing an Embedded Data Systems HA7E wire host adapter. Since we have several CR10 units currently deployed in the field, we want to retrofit these units if possible. Otherwise we would simply upgrade to the CR1000. If there isn't a data port designated for this, could an existing I/O port

Instruction 15, Control Port Serial I/O, does allow you to use one control port for hardware flow control (RTS/DTR) or (TXD/RXD). The first control port is the (RTS/DTR) line. Baud rate is limited to 300 or 1200. The CR1000 requires two wires to interface an RS-232 interface.

Q. I just unpacked my new CR10X datalogger and there is a red and blue wire on it. Can I take it off?
That red and blue wire that you see in differential channel 5 is a thermocouple. We ship the datalogger with this thermocouple so you can work through sample program #2 in the overview section of the CR10X datalogger manual. Feel free to remove this temperature measurement sensor if you do not need it.

Q. I've been testing my CR10X datalogger in the office and I'm ready to deploy it in the field to collect real data. How do I clear out my bogus office data?
Using the CR10KD, key in *A28A

Q. My CR10 has a library special EPROM. Do I need the a special PROM for my CR10X?
The CR10X uses downloadable operating systems instead of PROMs and includes more instruction in the standard operating system. Refer to the CR10X's operators manual or prompt sheet for a list of instructions included in the standard operating system.

Q. Is there a way to convert my CR10X program files to CR1000 program files?
Yes. We have created a software application, Transformer, to help you migrate your CR10X program files to CR1000 program files. Transformer is available within LoggerNet 3.0. From the Windows Start Menu, navigate to LoggerNet3.0 | Utilities| Transformer.

Q. Are your dataloggers Modbus compatible?
The CR510, CR500, CR10X, CR23X, CR800, CR850, CR3000, and CR1000 can be used for Modbus applications. The CR510, CR500, and CR10X require a special Operating System; Modbus protocol is standard in the CR23X, CR800, CR850, CR3000, and CR1000. If you already have a CR510, CR500, or CR10X and you want to use it for a Modbus application, you can purchase an operating system with the Modbus protocol and download it to the datalogger using CSOS downloading software or the DevConfig Utility.

Q. Can the CR10X communicate easily with a Wonderware SCADA system for data display?

Yes. You can obtain the data directly from the CR10X using the Modbus protocol. The datalogger must have a Modbus operating system installed. The Modbus Operating System can be purchased initially with the datalogger, or you can contact our factory to purchase a Modbus OS to retrofit your CR10X.

An alternate method of obtaining the data is using OPC. You would need our LoggerNet and our PC-OPC software. The version of Wonderware must also support OPC.
