Frequently Asked Questions About our Products and Solutions

Frequently Asked Questions: CR200

  1. Are the CR200, CR206, CR211, CR216, or CR295 dataloggers compatible with SDMs and multiplexers?

The CR200-series dataloggers are NOT compatible with SDMs or multiplexers. If you need more channels or might need more channels in the future, you should probably purchase a CR10X instead.

  2. Why do I get an "Incorrect OS Version" message when I try to download a program to the CR200?

The CR200 Series datalogger is unique in that it does not have an on-board program compiler like other CSI dataloggers. This means that the CRBasic file (*.CR2) must be compiled on the computer first, and then the compiled binary file (*.BIN) must be sent to the datalogger. When a program is created in CRBasic, the last step is to compile the file and, therefore, create the program *.BIN file. It is very important that the compiler used to generate the *.BIN file match the operating system version in the datalogger. If a *.BIN file is sent to the datalogger and the compiled version does not match the current OS, the program send will fail and an "Incorrect OS Version" message will be displayed. If you have recently purchased your CR200 Series datalogger, it is possible that the compiler that was originally included in the LoggerNet software does not match the compiler in the new datalogger.

To help avoid problems with OS version mismatch, if the *.CR2 file is chosen as the file to download to the datalogger, LoggerNet version 2.1b and greater will first query the datalogger for its OS version and then attempt to find the matching compiler in the LoggerNet program files directory (by default, this is C:Program FilesCampbellsciLoggerNet). If the matching compiler exists, LoggerNet will compile the file and send that file to the datalogger. Note that if the *.BIN file is chosen, LoggerNet will not compile the file before sending it.

The software CD that is shipped with each CR200 Series datalogger will contain the appropriate compiler for the datalogger's OS. Copy this file into the LoggerNet program files directory so that it is available for LoggerNet's use. In CRBasic, you can select this file as the compiler to be used when compiling *.CR2 files from the Options | Supported Loggers menu item.

  3. I've been using PakCom with my CR200 datalogger, but it wasn't in my last shipment. Where do I find it?

PakCom no longer ships with every CR200 datalogger. For programming, download the latest version of Short Cut from our downloads page. If you need more programming power, consider purchasing either PC400 or LoggerNet.

  4. How does the CR200 differ from your other dataloggers?

The CR200-series dataloggers vary in several ways from our other dataloggers. The CR200-series, initially designed to work in the field as wireless sensors, do not provide the same level of accuracy as our other dataloggers. The CR206, CR211, and CR216 have built-in spread spectrum radios; other telemetry options are limited. The CR200-series also have a one-year warranty, compared to the three-year warranty for our other dataloggers.
