FAQ

Q. I am having a problem with data from my 21X. When I dial up to the unit I can see the barometric pressure data in real time. When I attempt to collect data from the unit via dial up or even via storage module, the barometric data are all zeros. Can you offer a suggestion?
Could be that there is no output flag set to dump data to final storage. You may not be accessing the right input location of your barometric pressure sensor to send it to final storage. Refer to Section 12, "Program Control Instructions," in the 21X manual on how to set an output flag. The 21X manual is on our web page.

Q. I am looking for information on the 21X datalogger. Removal of the expansion memory module to be specific . I was trained on the CR10X in Edm, but have no info on the 21X.

The SM4M/16M Storage Module Manual on our web page, describes on how to install an remove a storage module to our dataloggers. The SM192/716 Storage Modules connect the same way as the SM4M/16M. The 21X Manual is on our web page and refer to Section 4. External Storage Peripherals for further assistance.

Q. Which battery packs are recommended for use with the 21X datalogger?

The 21XL Rechargeable Battery Pack with solar panel or AC charger is one way to go. You can also provide your own deep cycle marine or car battery with a solar panel to work with a 21X.

Q. Can I install the 21X Micrologger to capture soil water?

Not sure what you mean by soil water, but if you want to measure soil moisture, or run off from the soil, you can use the 21X with appropriate sensors.

Q. Do the 21X loggers have a built-in security code that might only kick in under certain conditions when upgrading the program?

There is no built in security code in the 21X. Security code can be set two ways in the 21X. You can enter a security code using *C and enter a four digit number or you can enter a security code in Edlog. Under Options in Edlog you can enter a four digit security code in to your program. Refer to Section 1-6 of the 21X Manual for more information on Security.

Q. I'm using a 21X micrologger with a channel multiplexer. I turned off the micrologger before I downloaded the data using PC208W and now I can't download anything.

Once you turn off the power to the 21X, you lose the program, final storage data and clock. There is no battery back up RAM or Clock in the 21X.

Q. My batteries have failed, and I lost the 21X program. I do not have a backup program, and need the source code. How can I find the code, and re-load the program?

Whenever power is lost to the 21X, you lose your program, clock and final storage data. You can write and reload the program to the 21X, with our datalogger support software. You should always have a back-up to your program, that includes a software and hard copy. You should also have a back-up wiring diagram of your sensors.

Q. I'm using 21X to calibrate temperature sensors. What is the voltage output range for the datalogger?

The voltage ranges are software selectable for any channel and full scale range is +or- 0 to 5 volts. Refer to Section 9, Table 9-1 for the input voltage ranges.

Q. I'm trying to interface with a 21X (s/n 3329) with an IBM thinkpad, using an SC32B connected to a radioshack RS-232 to USB adapeor. This connection has worked with two CR10X dataloggers and a CR10 datalogger. However, it does not work with the 21X. Do you have any suggestions?

I would start with checking the 12V and 5V supply of the 21X. Then check the *B Mode of the 21X to read the software PROMs. If you see only four windows in the *B Mode you will not be able to use Campbell Scientific Windows Software to interrogate the 21X with the IBM thinkpad. You will need to up grade the PROMs in the 21X. Contact Campbell Scientific for the PROM up grade.

Q. How do you transfer data from the 21X to Storage Module?

Refer to Section 4. of the 21X Manual that is on our web page or refer to the SM4M/16M Storage Module Manual on how to transfer data to a storage module. The SM192/716 Storage Modules transfer data the same way.
