Frequently Asked Questions: 034B-L

  1. How do you change the bearings of this sensor?

Pull down the latest manual for the sensor from the Campbell Scientific website and check for a section on maintenance or the appendix for instructions on replacing bearings.

  2. Our station currently uses the Met One windset. We are experiencing missing data or readings of 0 constant windspeed and various readings of gust speed. Is there any reason why we might be missing a bunch of data? When we go out in the field, the weather vane is moving and the wind speed sensor is moving.

The Met One 014A and 034B sensors use magnets spinning over a mechanical reed switch to sense wind speed. Eventually the mechanical reed switch will fail and will need to be replaced. Replace both the bearings and the reed switch at the same time. See the most recent sensor manuals for details and replacing bearings and reed switch.
