The 105E is a general purpose, 24-gage, shielded, type E thermocouple suitable for use in soil temperature measurement or similar applications. It replaces the 105T, which has been retired. The thermocouple junction is electrically isolated from the media being measured, thereby avoiding measurement errors due to differences in ground potential.
Type E thermocouples are composed of a chromel wire and a constantan wire joined at a measurement junction. Type T thermocouples were made with copper and constantan wires. Temperature is determined by measuring the differences in potential created at the junction of the two wires.
