(18591 orders two 12-cm rods) needs to be replaced. Water content is
averaged over the length of the rod. Therefore the reading from a probe
with 20-cm rods inserted vertically into the soil surface will be the
average value for the top 20 centimeters of soil. Probe rods may be
inserted at an angle to reduce the measurement depth.
